Outfits Not Just Clothes

And while we're not necessarily as coordinated as we have been in the past, here and here . We are outfitting in the same color family of blues and purples. For my look, now that Fall has officially started I've styled this retro-esque dress, last seen here , with a cardigan and booties . For Little Miss she's getting in some last wears of this sleeveless chambray tunic and these polka-dot leggings. She's growing so fast! 

...and they want their dress back!  dress-Gap(similar here ), flats-Dr. Scholls(more flats here ), necklace-Thrifted This petite floral frock reminds me of the kind of dress I would have killed for back in the 90's. My teenage-self would have paired it with black tights, combat boots, and an oversized cardigan. Come to think of it, I may just do that here this fall/winter because the grunge-inspired feminine style is all the rage. I keep seeing younger versions of myself everywhere. Earlier this year, I came across a group of undergrads playing hacky-sack, wearing knit caps, and listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers, and I seriously wondered if I had walked into a time warp! 😁 Yes, the 90's are back, and if you lived through the styles the first time around, be mindful of how you interpret this retro trend as a grownup adult person versus a teenager.

This go round we get to see its dramatic hem and drape in a more aesthetically badass outfit thanks to the boots and cuff. This look feels very 90's to me. Add some tights, switch out the chelsea boots for combat boots, and put in a few multicolored streaks in the hair and you'd have 16-year-old Bernadette to a tee! Which begs the question, can a lady of a certain age get away with the styles of her youth when they come back around?

You can argue this is more Normcore , but having been a teenager during the 90's flannel, plaid, ripped jeans is right up my style alley. For a 21st century take I paired this midi-shirtdress with a distressed tunic, basic leggings, and flat boots, which are all "upgrades" to pieces I would have happily worn back in the day. There's a style "rule" out there that says if you lived through a trend during it's original era, you've probably aged out of it when it comes back around.... My response to that (in true grunge style)--F*ck that noise! If you make it your own, then a fashionable person can outfit within most trends regardless of age.
