It Starts With The Dress

dress / necklace -Via Le Tote , cardi-Old Navy(similar here ), culottes-Everlane(similar here ), loafers-Zara(smilar here ), sunnies-Target(similar here )  The concept for this OOTD started with the skirt of this skater dress, the flare shape made me think of continuing that movement with these culottes. For the top half I wanted to keep the shoulders narrow for an triangle effect in the overall silhouette. I'm loving the results! This quilted dress is great on it's own, but makes for an edgy springtime look layered with culottes and a cardi. I wound the pendant to "fit" in the neckline and busted out these studded lace-ups to mirror the black and gold of the necklace.  Yes, I could have worn this dress on it's own, or with tights and the same cardigan, but layering it over these bottoms made for way more interesting midweek office wear, no?

Vest Over Dress Over Culottes

vest/oxfords-Zara(similar here and here ), dress/ necklace -Anthropologie(similarish dress  here ), culottes-Everlane(similar here ) We're at the end of September, but it still feels like high summer here in Pittsburgh 🌞😎. So I've been outfitting along that thin line of transitional dressing while being seasonally appropriate. What does that mean? Well it's fall (officially) so I'm not really feeling sundresses and sandals, but it's hot like summer so I can't really bust out plaids, sweaters, and scarves much to my chagrin.  Hence, this look of strategic, yet light layers and a muted color palette. The gold of the necklace and studded loafers bring a bit of glam into this midweek work-wear ensemble. Also, I think it may be time for a haircut...💇

Tuxedo Dress

dress-H&M(similar here ), pants-Zara(similar here ), necklace-Need Supply(similar here ), flats-Shoe Mint(similar from Zara here ) This outfit, while seemingly simple(black top, grey bottoms, flats) is a bit avant-garde for a Tuesday at work, no? Thanks to this "tuxedo" dress with it's lapels, buttons, and pockets this dress-over-pants switches things up from your standard LBD. The inspiration for this look came from a Refinery29 article on fashionable kids. Meet Rin and her mom Rica-- While Rin's look is very cute, and right up my striped alley, it was her mom's outfit that inspired me. Going for an easy, loose silhouette with some architectural detail was how I approached turning this inspo photo into real life outfitting. Oh, but hey, just noticed that I AM sporting stripes on my black and white flats. So, this is actually a nice little combo inspo! Check out more of Rin's style here !

Pockets, Pockets, Pockets!

vest-Mango(similarish here ), dress-Anthropologie(similar here ), trousers-Uniqlo(similarish here ), boots- Kelly & Katie via DSW (similar here ), necklace-Gifted Pockets run deep in this outfit--in the vest, dress, and trousers! You can never have too many pockets in my book! And yes, I'm still rocking a dress over pants, which I started embracing last year around this time in my post-partum transition . And have found it to be a fun way to layer, especially as winter drags on and my cold-weather clothing could definitely use a stylish boost.   Pittsburgh finally got hit with snow last night, but nothing as bad other parts of PA and New York, so be sure to layer up and stay warm.
