Outfits Not Just Clothes

 With winter in full swing it's fun to experiment with layers. Not only are they a practical means of dealing with the cold, but when done well, can also create new shapes and silhouettes. Here I've layered a wrap crop-top over a very warm gingham shirt for a corseting like effect that cinches in this oversized shirt.  coat-J.Crew(similar here ), crop top/boots-Nordstrom(similar here and  here ), gingham shirt-Mango(similar here and here ), skit-Uniqlo(similar here ), sunnies- Diff Eyewear There's a Victorian feel to this silhouette, no? This gingham print makes me think of Anne of Green Gables  especially when paired with this full skirt and lace-up boots.  This coat, that I've had for over a decade(which really speaks to the value of investing in outerwear) "chic-ifies" the over all look, which being in black and white is also kind of edgy. So there's deceptively a lot going on in this outfit, which just goes to show you the power of layers! 

Wow, it's been over a month since my last post, which was an outfit I wore my first week back to regularly going into the office .  Well after that first week, I've barely had a normal week since! With my oldest starting kindergarten and Covid-related shutdowns at daycare for my younger daughter it's been a scramble.  So here I am in a leather jacket, button-down, wide-leg trousers, and sneakers. jacket- Nordstrom , shirt/sneakers-H&M(similar here and here ), trousers/belt-Gap(similar here and here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear I love finishing off typical office wear looks with this leather jacket.  I added a sporty sense with the sneakers and would totally wear this to work, or drinks, or events like a book party or reading, whenever those are no longer virtual.  Hopefully I'll be back to posting more regularly, we shall see...

Here I went with an edgy layered take that is still casual, but feels more polished. One of the challenges with this dress is the length and side-slits. Of course another leather jacket OOTD here for fall, and the glorious autumn afternoon sunshine, paying tribute to RBG , and of course TRAINS! Two trains went by in the time it took to get these shots.  We also had to dodge a few cars since I'm in the middle of the street. As for the outfit, I'm keeping the turtleneck action  going with a standard black turtleneck, grey trousers, and sporty sneakers.  The jacket, shoes, and pin really elevate this sweater and pants into an unexpectedly edgy look.
