Orange Blazer and Feminism

Sometimes a good outfit can be a simple t-shirt & jeans, with boots and a blazer for a bit of polish. I also layered in a chambray shirt for some denim-on-denim action, which is a styling trick I really like for spring. Of course this t-shirt serves up a message.  "They Didn't Burn Witches They Burned Women" blazer-J.Crew(similar here ), shirt-Gap(similar here ), T-shirt- TeePublic ,  jeans- Universal Standard , bracelets- Nordstrom , ring-Mejuri(similar here ), boots-DSW(similar here ) On the surface there's nothing revolutionary about this look. Again, a fairly simple formula of jeans, tee, blazer, and boots with a layered chambray shirt. However, the bright orange and how it plays on the colors of the T-shirt, and of course the messaging makes these clothes an outfit.  I'm not going to presume that I'm changing the world by wearing a feminist T-shirt, but it's in the small ways and subtle cues is part of making a difference especially for these two...

Scotch & Soda

sweater- Scotch & Soda via Le Tote , jeans- Levi's , boots-Zara(similar here ), watch-Wenger(more options here ) I am in LOVE with this vintage-esque sweater from Scotch & Soda that came in my recent tote. The details of the ruffled neckline, the ribbing, the retro feel of the stripes, and of course the little heart tag, made this turtleneck knit a must keep. So I did and I've been showing it off on Zoom, and perfecting my virtual meeting hair and makeup.  What do you think? I'm going for the no-makeup makeup look.  Check out some of my tips, tricks, and product recommendations  here !

Spring Gingham

vest-Old Navy(similar jacket here ), shirt-Mango(similar here ), jeans-Anthropologie(similar here ), sneakers- Vans , necklace- Le Tot e I picked up this gingham shirt on sale being only somewhat aware this is an "it print" for spring . Besides, the trendy print, another great aspect of this shirt is it's rendering in a heavier fabric. Which means it's  perfect for the chiller days of April, and will definitely come back into my outfitting rotation later come fall! Which brings me to my next point! There are a variety of trendy patterns out and about for spring/summer 2017, i.e. bold florals, neon stripes, etc. But, gingham is the kind of print that is appropriate for all seasons. So, the smart buy is gingham!

Culottes vs Flares

Each season has it's own take on denim, which is such a ubiquitous fabric that it is no longer reserved for casual weekend jeans, but has found its way into a variety of styles and garments. This spring two particular (and one might say contradictory) silhouettes in denim have cropped up.  Culottes or roomier/mom jeans, and 70's inspired, high-waisted flares. image via Glamour.com images via WhoWhatWear.com Both trends are in the extreme, either you go baggie and short, or long and lean. Some ladies could pull off both, but I'd caution those of us who aren't models and/or street style stars to thoroughly test run both trends in the dressing room before making a purchase.   The "culotte" or "mom jean" version (which by the way I HATE culottes, but they are popping up so much I can no longer ignore) are best for taller ladies with slimmer hips, while the flares can help elongate the leg (and with the right shoe) give petite gals...

Jeans Outlaw

Yeah, I'm on the edge man, hanging outside the restricted area! jeans- H&M , tshirt- AmericanApparel , shirt-Jcrew(similar here ), boots-Forever21(similar here ) Some day it had to happen and that day is today.  I am just wearing clothes!!!!!  I know, I know, the whole premise of this blog is to showcase outfits, not just clothes, but sometimes/days I can't always meet that expectation.  Of course these are no ordinary jeans.  They are my adventure jeans.  I've worn them to climb a mountain in Ireland: I think, maybe this is the same white tee in the pictures above. And explore passage tombs: You may not be able to tell, but I had a lot more hair back then. We all have items of clothing that have been "somewhere" with us.  And for me these jeans definitely fall into that category.  These jeans have climbed through the heather, crawled on ancient stones and circumnavigated around several piles of sheep sh*t. I would...
