Late Fall Overalls

A few weeks ago I had a very rare weekend home alone, during which I made some interesting online purchases... hence these floral overalls.  I can't say vodka wasn't involved. I can say that before the frigid temperatures came upon us here this week I was able to get some outfit pics featuring said overalls with some late afternoon sunshine in the background.  coat-Nordstrom(similar here ), shirt /boots- Gap (similar boot here ), overalls- Cider , sunnies- Kate Spade With any overall, whether shorts or full-length the shoulder-strap-to-crotch ratio is a vital concern. What you want to avoid is a droopy bib and a tight crotch. Here the portions are working well enough, it could be better, but the shoulder ruffle on the shirt helps balance out the look. While some may think overalls on a middle-aged woman is a case of mutton-dressed-as-lamb, I think the dramatic, while not being twee floral print of this pair is just enough quirk for a grown woman.

Fun Shorts Friday--Cocktail Edition

muscle tee- Betsey Johnson via Le Tote , shorts- Anthropologie available here via Poshmark , watch, ring- Le Tote , sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , shoes- All Birds I've had these very fun, romantic, ruffly shorts for a LONG time, first seen here . For this #funshortsfriday post I styled them with a muscle tee for an eclectic mix of sporty meets cocktail chic. And speaking of cocktails,  what better way to start the weekend than with champagne like the t-shirt says.

A Flouncy Top

top- Nordstrom , shorts- Uniqlo , flats- allbirds , sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , watch-Michael Kors(similar here ) You may recall these fabulous shorts in my first #FunShortsFriday post , from almost two months ago. And while, I haven't posted a shorts look every Friday, it's been a fun way to end the week when I do and what I hope is a positive, if small mark, on this summer.  I'd love to see your #FunShortsFriday or #funshortsfriday so use either hashtag and tag me if you post your look, follow me on Facebook , Twitter , or Instagram  I'm all for sharing creativity and style here during this summer of Covid.  Also, t his is like the 1st time (as an adult) that I've worn a summer-classic shirred bodice top. What took me so long? I guess because I thought they were for "girly-girls" or pretty girls or younger girl, or girls thinner (or in better shape) than I. But finding one rendered in black and overcoming those societal expectations on beauty took some time.

One Dress So Many Thoughts

dress/belt- Banana Repbulic (similar here and here ), cardi- La Fee Verte via Le Tote necklace/ring-similar here and here , wedges-DSW(similar here ) I have so many, and somewhat contradictory thoughts about this dress. First, I've had it for quite some time, around summer of 2008! So, there is definitely some nostalgia around that time of my life and how this dress represents that. But, it's so hard to keep nice, hence the wrinkles... I have to dry clean it every time I wear it because even water droplets can leave a stain if left too long... It's distinctive without being in-your-face flashy, which is right UP my style alley. This ruffle-neckline gives a nod to the current off-the-shoulder/caplet trends we're seeing now, so it's "in style" in its own unique way--again very much my style MO. I'm not really loving the fit... there's a LOT of material around the bust and I'm alread...
