Outfits Not Just Clothes

Jacket-Octavia via Le Tote , Joggers-Gap(similar here ), boots- Columbia Sportswear , scarf-Vintage(similarish here via Poshmark ) Last Saturday before the big storm and major drop in temperature I was out and about in this blue boho ensemble. The cut of this jacket, called for a fitted bottom, but I wasn't really feeling leggings or skinnies, so I went with a slim-style jogger. Comfort is really my driving force when it comes to weekend outfitting, hence my supportive, no frills hiking boots, last seen here . But don't get me wrong, I'm not slubbing around. Case in point: To play up this outerwear's embroidery I accessorized with a "vintage" scarf. In fact this piece is some straight-up personal vintage as I've had it for almost 20 years!!! dress- eShakti , necklace-Macy's(similar here ), sunnies- Target , flats- Dr. Scholl's   For this OOTD,the bold red stripes in the skirt and sleeves give a nod to the holiday season, while still being chic.  I love the idea of  color-blocking  as a theme for holiday dressing, it's graphic and festive without the full force of  straight-up Christmas Sweaters. I plan on wearing this wrap throughout the winter, as the longer length provides warm, the silhouette provides nursing/pumping access, and of course pockets.  Since it's my last day in the office before the holidays, this will probably be the last post for 2018. What a wild year! I grew my hair out, had another baby, leaned into a more feminine style, then cut all my hair off again. Who knows what the new year will bring, but I intend to keep on outfitting.

Well this past spring I gave birth to another daughter and the idea of coordinating a baby, toddler, and mommy outfits may send me over the edge (in a good way) for this upcoming holiday season. I now have coordinated ensembles for both Thanksgiving & Christmas this year. dress- Wren & Ivory , therma l / flats -Gap, necklace-gifted  I've featured Wren & Ivory on two shopping posts ( here & here ), and now I've finally taken the plunge with this cotton faux-wrap frock. It's hitting most of my must-haves as listed in this post last week. It's nursing-friendly, has pockets, is work-appro, AND is both stylish and flattering if I do say so myself. I layered it with a go-to thermal henley, then added a pop of color with these comfy flats. It's such a boost to find garments that provide solutions to my outfitting needs, and while this dress leans towards a summery/spring style, I can totally make it work for fall/winter. Glad I ordered a size up for the layering potential.

Now, with my 3-month old in daycare, and myself back at work this functional frock is serving me well, not only in terms of a flattering, comfortable fit, but also for pumping at the office as I discussed in yesterday's post . I've definitely leaned into more feminine styles this past year with becoming a mother a second time around and changing my hair. Petite florals, and romantic touches are more suited to my longer hair, then they would be to the pixie crop I sported for so long. Hair/head styling can make a break an outfit just as much as well chosen accessories and the right fit.  Also speaking of romantic touches, check out the rose-of-sharon hedge background for these pics!
