Outfits Not Just Clothes

Now that autumn has officially arrived it's time to switch out my warm-weather wardrobe for the chunky knits, longer hems, and layering basics of fall. To celebrate the last days of summer I donned this vested outfit!  jacket- J.Crew , vest-H&M(similar here ), tank- Amazon , pants-Banana Republic(similar here ), loafers-Anne Klein(similar here ), sunnies- Kate Spade , necklaces/rings- Mejuri , mask-MASKC(more options here ) While vests are not exclusive to summer, check out this Vogue piece on Vest Outfits for Fall , wearing a one as a top or sans-sleeves is definitely a warm-weather 'fit. Here I styled this menswear-inspired vest with side-striped cropped trousers, a tank, and white denim jacket! 

 I love white denim no matter the season, but there's something about this point in spring (in Pennsylvania) where the palette of nature feels so fragile. This white denim jacket really pops against that fragility what with the contrast in the sky, bare trees, bit of green, and weathered stone. Here I've paired it with trouser shorts, sheer tights, and the star of this outfit the denim jacket. I'm back and forth on sheer tights, they have a lot of 80's connotations for me, but not in a good way. These shots were taken a few weeks ago, so there's definitely more growth on trees and such as of this posting. On a bright, wind swept day we explored Hazelwood Green and took some outfit pics of this dress and cardi combo!  dress--LuLaRoe(similar options here via ThredUp ), cardigan-Nordstrom Rack(similar options here ), earrings-- Wisteria Sky Boutique via Etsy , necklace- J.Crew Factory Yes, this dress is from the infamous multi-level-marketing company LuLaRoe , which I purchased at a "dress party" held by my friend before all of the scandals and poor product quality emerged. Hey, it's cute, has pockets, and works for work. Belted and paired with this striped cardi and loafers, it's a subtle nod to the emerging color of early spring flowers, while we're still experiencing some grey chilly days.  In other news, you can read more about this location/development project here . 

 With winter in full swing it's fun to experiment with layers. Not only are they a practical means of dealing with the cold, but when done well, can also create new shapes and silhouettes. Here I've layered a wrap crop-top over a very warm gingham shirt for a corseting like effect that cinches in this oversized shirt.  coat-J.Crew(similar here ), crop top/boots-Nordstrom(similar here and  here ), gingham shirt-Mango(similar here and here ), skit-Uniqlo(similar here ), sunnies- Diff Eyewear There's a Victorian feel to this silhouette, no? This gingham print makes me think of Anne of Green Gables  especially when paired with this full skirt and lace-up boots.  This coat, that I've had for over a decade(which really speaks to the value of investing in outerwear) "chic-ifies" the over all look, which being in black and white is also kind of edgy. So there's deceptively a lot going on in this outfit, which just goes to show you the power of layers!
