Outfits Not Just Clothes

 In looking back on past posts comparing pieces worn over the years and currently outfitting through another winter season I started thinking about all of the outerwear items I've sported over the past decade... Here's a look back in fairly accurate chorological order of some OOTD posts featuring jackets, coats, and vest, Oh My! From Fall Layers This outfit was from 2014 (!!!)  And I'm counting this puffy, pinstriped vest from J.Crew as outerwear. I've layered it over a blazer, which in turn is layered over a shift dress and collared shirt. In looking at this picture now, I feel the proportions are slightly off, the skirt needed to be longer and maybe the dress belted underneath. The C and V stand are the initials of my daughters' first names, loving how delicate this necklace is. Now I've cinched it over a printed minidress worn over these badass combat boots. It's such a versatile piece of outerwear and being fleece quite cozy.  This dress is rendered in an unexpected pattern of florals sprigs. You don't usually associate flowers with fall, but the colors and use of stems evoke a sense of foliage making it the perfect dress to wear in front of this forest landscape. This is comfy, yet sophisticated outwear that's perfect as a blazer/cardigan/jacket hybrid over both dressier fare (as above) and could totally work with casual looks any day of the week. For this OOTD I paired it with a floral, bee-printed blouse, picking up the hue of the jacket, and standard black cropped trousers.  Leopard print flats add a second print just for the fun of it, and I accessorized with my go-to jewelry here as of late for a lovely little date night with my husband. coat/waistcoat-H&M(similar here and here ), shirt-Gap(similar here ), trousers- Banana Republic , loafers-Zara(similar here ) This androgynous OOTD is a great example of how outwear can make or break the overall look. On their on this shirt, trouser, and waistcoat are fine, but when you add the peacoat it becomes a more polished ensemble. Sure, the blacks of the jacket and pants don't necessarily match, but there's still a suiting vibe going on, as opposed to the topper being disconnected from the rest of the outfit. With the spring comes a chance to have way fun with outerwear and create a more cohesive look, instead of just wearing a coat. YAY!
