Outfits Not Just Clothes

I'm wearing it in the same way with this outfit, playing off the blue and black pattern by wearing a cobalt dress over black tights and boots. It can be tricky to outfit around a statement piece like this coat. A good rule of thumb is to let the statement garment be the star keeping the rest of the outfit simple/neutral. Another approach, which is the one I'm employing here, is dressing to match or coordinate with the standout piece. A third route, and one that only a experienced outfitter should attempt, is to pair the statement piece with OTHER statement garments for an overall out-loud look. If successful that would certainly be badass. 

This coat is a size 16, which is way huge on me, but I really like the pattern and think it's the ideal coat for spring. When thrifting you can't always find the perfect, absolute right fit so you have to ask yourself if the garment still works even if it might be on the baggier or tighter side. It's really a case-by-case judgement call.  For me this coat, with its black trim and  black and cobalt blue, is a fun transitional garment and a nice way of reintroducing color back into my outfitting after a flurry of black n' white looks-- here , here , here , AND here . It's a great color combo for seasonal transitions, especially winter-to-spring aka sprinter .
