Outfits Not Just Clothes

blazer- Jcrew via Threadflip (similar here ), trousers/tee-Urban Outfitters(more pants here , and similar here ) bracelet-Banana Republic(more bracelets here) , necklace-Martin & Osa(similar over at Free People here ), ring- Jewel Mint , belt-Gap(similar here ), loafers- Bass Tweed is more of a fall/winter fabric, but I like it for spring as well, especially paired with bright pops of color. You may recall a similar look in teal tones from last month here . This outfit does verge on the casual without the blazer, but I can't seem to resist tee-shirts now that the weather has warmed up. There's nothing like wearing a slightly faded tee that signals the end of winter, or am is that just me?

I love how the orange in the necklace plays off the stripes in the tee. Also, that "bracelet" is actually a necklace that I've wrapped a few times. I just can't seem to stay away from these cargos and loafers with a blazer... Hopefully I'll find a new uniform for 2014.  Happy New Year!

You may recall I am currently in the midst of a Year of No Shopping . Counting today I'm 98 days in with 267 to go.  Last week I almost threw it all away on these: Uniqlo Leggings Pants     At a mere $19.90 these leggings won't break the bank by any means AND I don't really have anything like this in my current wardrobe. However, I don't NEED them. I have leggings and I have pants, enough to see me through the winter.  This was a pure want/lust situation as I pictured these legging pants with knee-high boots, flannel, and a blazer. Or, with a printed blouse and long cardi.  I was so close to clicking "proceed to checkout" but I got up away from my computer and shook out the energy to calm down.  Temptation overcome!   Also, after much consideration and a consultation with my shoe repair guy I will be replacing my brown Bass loafers highlighted here .        It appears the d...

Shoes so often can make or break an outfit, while being one of the most functionally items of apparel. For me, deciding on the shoe can dictate the rest of the look, particularly in terms of hem length, color, and walkability. It was a very rainy morning here in Pittsburgh so for today I went with some boring old flat, black knee-boots. But the sun is starting to peek through the mid-morning loll so hopefully brighter shoes will come into play later this week.   

I am 64 days into my Year of No Shopping announced here .  And I have a dilemma, a shoe dilemma, one might even go as far as to call this a loafer-lemma.  My sturdy, go-to, brown loafers from Bass are falling apart and they are a staple in my wardrobe.          I'm wondering if I can buy a replacement pair? If the damage was merely superficial, I would argue no. However, a rainy morning of runny errands with wet feet is a sign that the shoes are done. Here's a possible replacement pair: Bass   These are a bit pricey, but so were the previous pair and I had them since 2008! So cost-per-wear is high. This pairs also caught my eye:   Shoe Mint   So, what do we think? Do I have a case here for suspending the shopping hiatus for a few minutes and ordering new brown loafers?  And which pair?
