Outfits Not Just Clothes

blazer-Banana Republic(similarish here ), shirtdress- H&M , leggings- Old Navy Maternity , boots-DSW(similar here ), ring-Jewel Mint(similar here from Poshmark ), necklace-Gifted I featured this shirtdress/tunic on a recent buys post  and am loving it! The color, the fit, the pockets(!!!!) all right up my style alley and quite flattering to my bump. This will also serve me well in the fall when I return to work post-baby. Speaking of fall, yes this OOTD is a bit more autumnal than spring-like, what with the tweedy blazer and knee-high boots, but after the snowy spring we've had here in Pittsburgh I'm not feeling pastels and bare legs just yet. Plus, I'm off the sartorial opinion that olive/military green and navy is a chic, year-round color combo, so there you go!

Now in the 3rd trimester I'm utilizing it as a tunic with a knit skirt and blazer. Note, that the sheer tights (which add some texture to this black and grey ensemble) are the only actual maternity piece I'm wearing.  I feel like I could write a manifesto on non-maternity maternity wear. With some too-good-to-past-up-sale here as of late I've added to my springtime wardrobe with the hopes that Spring will eventual make it's way to Pittsburgh. The forecast is looking good for the rest of this week! I had two main edicts guiding me in the following purchases. 1. Non-Maternity pieces that I could wear now in my 3rd trimester. 2 Potential garments for my return to work in the fall when my body will be in "flux". First up, a few pieces from H&M Long-Sleeved Tunic Olives and military greens are always a favorite of mine for early spring and transitional seasons in general. Loving the longer length of this tunic, which can be worn with maternity leggings now, and trousers in a six months time.  Pull-On Pants Speaking of trousers, hello pull-on pants! In yesterday's post I reveled in the challenge of re-purposing my dresses into maternity tunics, but there are two sides to every outfitting coin and I'm finding work-appropriate maternity top options to be dwindling here as of late. I'm not a fan of actual maternity shirts because they really ONLY work with a bump. The close-fitting kind are just NOT flattering postpartum, and the more voluminous shirts are WAY too big after baby arrives. Plus, I find it hard to justify a new purchase (and get pumped for it) if I only have three more months to wear it.  So I'm looking to tunic options, particularly from ModCloth (I have a store credit) and in thinking ahead to the fall, wanting a shirt that'll see me through the rest of my pregnancy, during my postpartum period, and be a cute piece for my return to work.  Cast your votes in the comments!  A. I couldn't resist picking up the darker red version, especially at the sale price as I'm loving longer lengths of late. There's a delicate balance when it comes to longer/hi-lo hems. Do you play into the extending the silhouette or contrast with cropped layers. I've chosen the former, as I feel it suits me better, and plus I'm just not  huge fan of cropped cardis, jackets, etc.  Also, I have an "Easter egg" in one of the purchase links above and in yesterday's post  alluding to an upcoming announcement... let me know if you can guess  it in the comments!
