Outfits Not Just Clothes

Just breeze into my office and swing around my red bob, probably add a crisp white blazer to serve up the professional woman realness of it all! But alas I wore this on the drive to pick up my kids from their grandparents' house... I DID flaunt this gingham top on a Zoom meeting, but didn't style a whole look.  Just the top, and jewelry with my standard WFH sweats.

These toile trousers are my latest obsession in a long line of pattern bottoms. Purchased on mega-sale from Anthropologie, I paired these skinny crops with a crochet overlay top and neutral cardigan. It can be hard to style statement pants like these. Do you go with a minimal shirt, so as not to compete with the focus of the print? Or do you lean-in on the pattern and wear an equally dynamic top? Balance vs. contrast, subtly vs. statement? For me, it's a case by case decision, thinking about what will make for a better overall outfit. For this OOTD the black & white pallet makes it easier to wear more than one statement garment....

Here, it's another take on the dress-over-pants trend that I finally embraced after well over a year in posts here , here , and here . And, it's really all about the tunic in this outfit. The half-tuck creates an interesting silhouette, the print is a fresh take on the black-and-white color combo, and while yes the necklace and loafers are fun, it's the peacocks that grab the eye.  In terms of office/work wear this is really a fairly standard outfit when broken down. You have trousers, loafers, a blazer, and a button-down. But, with the two-tone shoes, crisp blazer, well-fitting pants and the "alternate" tunic/dress as shirt a more stylish and edgy outfit emerges. Wow...

Now I'm sporting it as an easy, oversized shiftdress that I threw on with a cotton black slip, some flats, and this delicate necklace for an effortless Sunday/Funday look!  We took the baby out and about for some lunch, shopping, and a stroll. Not the Sunday/Fundays of old that involved a lot more day-drinking, but it was a fun family outing. And, of course I'm still outfitting to coordinate with the stroller, last seen here .
