Sandwiching Purse & Shoes

I recently discovered a new outfitting technique called Sandwiching where you match a top to a bottom as "slices of bread" with a contrasting middle "meat" piece. I've interpreted it here as a call back to the old timey practice of a lady matching her handbag to her shoes with this dress as the "meat & cheese".  dress-Gap(similar here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , boots- Vince Camuto via Nordstrom(similar here ), necklace -Panacea via Nordstrom bag- Melie Bianco The boots and bag combo give this semi-romantic dress a bit of an unexpected edge. That's the power of accessories, they can breath a new 'tude into a simple dress. The pearl jewelry also creates a subtle contrast. You can read more about the sandwich technique in my write-up here .

Mommy & Me in the Same Color Family

cardi-Similar here from Banana Republic , dress-Gap(similar here ), boots-H&M(similar here ), necklace-Jewel Mint(available here from Poshmark ), toddler clothes-Carter's(similar pieces here and here ), sneakers- Tsukihoshi via Littles Shoes It's been exactly one year since the last #twinning post with my daughter, here . And while we're not necessarily as coordinated as we have been in the past, here and here . We are outfitting in the same color family of blues and purples. For my look, now that Fall has officially started I've styled this retro-esque dress, last seen here , with a cardigan and booties . For Little Miss she's getting in some last wears of this sleeveless chambray tunic and these polka-dot leggings. She's growing so fast!

Plaid Overcoat Action

coat-H&M(similar here ), sweater-Old Navy(similar here ), dress- eShakti , boots- Sam Edelman via Nordstrom , watch- Wenger  via Amazon   When gifted with a week's worth of warm days in late winter I like to be strategic in my outerwear and give my insulated coat a break, hence this plaid trench. Another strategic aspect of this OOTD are these waterproof boots. Usually a warm bout is accompanied by rain and runoffs, so while the temps are spring-like you still need functional footwear. With all this functional strategy it can be a challenge to incorporate style, but never fear, with a bit of print mixing, like stripes with plaid above, I'm keeping my outfitting game strong!

Checks & Pleats

coatigan- Le Tote , vest/skirt-H&M(similar here and here ), boots-ModCloth(similar here ), scarf- American Apparel   A bit of dark romance to round out these week's worth of OOTD posts. I've been hitting the androgyny aesthetic pretty hard, and awesomely I might add, as seen here , here and here . For this post I went more fem, but still with menswear flair thank's to the vest. I don't often bust out midi-skirts, or skirts in general, and I have to admit I'm not "feeling" this look as much as I was with earlier ensembles this week. I love the mix of checks with orchids, and of course the layering, but I think there's a better way to execute this look. What say you? Play pretend stylist on me?
