The Modern Suit

blazer-Forever 21(similar here ), top- Sanctuary Clothing via Le Tote (similar here ), trousers-J.Crew(similar here ), necklace-Noir Luxe via Le Tote , rings- Jewel Mint , heels-Saks off Fifth(similar here ), sunnies- ViVI Technically, this isn't a suit as the blazer and trousers are from two different stores, but it acts like a modern alternative to the standard neutral, flared-leg, one-button blazer situation that many professional women default to: There's nothing wrong with this, it gets the job done, but it's kind of boring, right? Sure, on the model it comes off as crisp and bold, which is accomplished through photoshop and pinning any extra fabric, but IRL on a real woman this has the tendency to come off as ho-hum. And, while flared jeans are having a resurgence this season flared/boot-cut suit trousers read as early 00's. Not that I want to shame suit-wearing ladies, but I think it might be time to explore other silhou...

Blazer, T-Shirt, Cords, Oh My!

blazer-J.Crew(similar here ) cords- J.Crew Factory , tee-Madewell(similar here ), necklace- chloe + isabel c/o Angela B . , bracelete-Noir Luxe via Le Tote (more options here ), boots- L.L. Bean sunnies-ViVI(similar here ), scarf-NYC street vendor.  This is a fairly ho-hum look. It's a spin-off from the standard t-shirt and jeans, but with a blazer, cords, and some glam jewelry to step things up a bit. I'm loving the color combo here with these cool blues of the tee, bracelet, and in the tweedy mix of the blazer. And I know we've been seeing these boots a ton, but hey look at the snow on the ground people, it's duck-boot season! So yeah, nothing revolutionary happening here, just a solid semi-casual, seasonally appropriate outfit for you on a Monday.

Leggings in Winter

sweater- Willow & Clay via Le Tote , shirt/leggings-Old Navy(similar here and here ), scarf-Noir Luxe via Le Tote necklace- chloe + isabel c/o of Angela B , watch-Michael Kors(similar here ), boots-Target(similar here )  First off, as soon as I thought of this post's title "Leggings in Winter" my mind IMMEDIATELY thought of The Lion in Winter and how Katharine Hepburn worked that head-scarf-medieval-drag  , which then brought to mind   the re-imagining of said film in the Fox show Empire , which is so wonderfully melodramatic with EPIC costuming. I'm not saying that my outfit here is anywhere near that show's style, but I wanted to share my stream of consciousness. However, the mix of prints here is pretty freaking fabulous! Birds, checks, and leopard print oh my! Anyway, about leggings--I recently read a piece on Who What Wear that highlighted a post from blogger Veronica Partridge in which she's decided t...

Poetry Reading Outfit

Poetry Reading Outfit by bernadetteulsamer featuring a fish hook necklace This Friday I'll be attending a reading at Delanie's Coffee on E. Carson St. You may recall past poetry reading outfits here and here .  I'm thinking I may go ironic rockstar for Friday. Something along the lines of the above: some leopard print jeans, a leather jacket, and for the irony a tuxedo t-shirt, because you know I like to party.  If you're in the South Side this Friday evening at 7 stop by Delanie's for coffee and what I suspect will be some amazing poetry.
