Tori Amos and Every Outfit

It can be tricky to build an outfit around "merch" which is usually gimmicky or niche or sports themed. Here I felt up to the challenge of creating an eclectic, greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts look using pieces that each contribute to a very specific vibe.

I'm not sure what that specific vibe is, but I am loving how this outfit came together. Tori Amos has been a bedrock for me since the 90s. I wouldn't be the redheaded woman I am today if not for her, hands down! Her rendering on this tee really pops with my hair, and then we have the unexpected pairing of leopard shorts with a long office-setting vest. It shouldn't make sense, but it does. Then I've added a kerchief in the look's color palette after which put on the "wrong" shoe of a lace-up heavy black oxford. Lastly I literally capped it off with a podcast hat I got from attending a live show. Frick tote bag in hand and I wore this look for a Costco and Target run just because I felt like it.

I've been seeing a lot of advice on Instagram to wear the clothes you have and not wait for the just right occasion. Mission accomplished with this outfit.

Love the tuxedo detail of these cropped pants. coat/pants-Jcrew(similar here and here ), blazer-Zara(similar here ), shirt-Asos(sort of similar here ), shoes-DSW(really cool here ), gloves-Brian Atwood for Neiman Marcus/Target(more gloves here ), sunglasses-Banana Republic(similar here ) I'm feeling very Annie Lennox circa Eurythmics in this outfit, eh? Most times wearing a coat is a necessity, not necessarily an intricate part of the outfit, but here it really makes the look. 40 Year Old Cottagecore

Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids. Rent the Runway to the Rescue

So after the semi-disastrous dress vote from last week I took the stiletto by the heel, aka reserved this Slate & Willow dress from Rent the Runway for the wedding in July. Slate & Willow I had my eye on this as a possible outfit for the Tilda Swinton event I attended last month (fancy I know!) But, ended up going pretty casual since it was just a film screening. An AMAZING screening, but not a dressy affair nonetheless. Anyway, this striped sheath has so many good reviews from a variety of fellow renters in all shapes and sizes, I didn't see one unflattering user pic, so I'm fairly confident this frock will serve my needs come July.
