First Outfit Post of 2015!

This pin is in support of my friend's collection of poetry out this Spring, link below.

A little bit of plaid peaking out is never a bad idea.

blazer/boots-Gap, shirt-ModCloth(similar here), pants-Zara, bracelet/rings-Jewel Mint, necklace-Gifted, pin-The Gaffer

And we're back with outfits! I wore this on Saturday for a panel discussion of writers on publishing, so I definitely wanted to look professional, yet creative. I'm doing some sneaky layering here with long-john leggings under these leather-effect pants, and it may seem like I have a plaid shirt under a grey sweater, but in fact it's just one piece. (You may recall this post on layered one pieces here.) But, even though the top is a single garment (grey in the front, plaid in the back and collar) I still have a long-sleeved tee underneath because it was mighty frigid on Saturday, even in the sun.

The rest of this month and into February will be challenging, as it is every winter, to stay stylish and warm. In years past I fought against the weather going around in heels and/or not wearing a proper coat, but this year, my 34th winter on this earth, I've decided to stop making outfitting harder on myself. I plan on staying warm, but still chic, what this means for the blog is that you'll most likely see a lot of repeated pieces and possibly looks with only a few minor tweaks.

AND in case you were interested, I was on the panel because of my chapbook "Trestling" available through Flutter Press

40 Year Old Cottagecore

dress-Anthropologie(more options here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , necklace- Benevolence LA , bag-- Shiraleah , sandals- Born I first became aware of Cottagecore earlier this summer and found it to be an aesthetic I can appreciate and find aspirational , but was not necessarily a style that aligned with my wheelhouse. Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids.  I no longer feel like I have something to proof in my work, writing, sense of self. I'm just going to enjoy and be grateful for the many blessings of family, friends, health, a...

Rent the Runway to the Rescue

So after the semi-disastrous dress vote from last week I took the stiletto by the heel, aka reserved this Slate & Willow dress from Rent the Runway  for the wedding in July.  Slate & Willow I had my eye on this as a possible outfit for the Tilda Swinton event I attended last month (fancy I know!) But, ended up going pretty casual since it was just a film screening. An AMAZING screening, but not a dressy affair nonetheless.  Anyway, this striped sheath has so many good reviews from a variety of fellow renters in all shapes and sizes, I didn't see one unflattering user pic, so I'm fairly confident this frock will serve my needs come July. And here are some pics of former rentals over the last few years: Nanette Lapore Elie Tahari Elie Tahari Robert Rodriguez Halston Heritage Interesting in renting something for yourself here this summer, use this link , to get $20 off your first rental. You're welcome!

Annie Lennox Realness!

Love the tuxedo detail of these cropped pants. coat/pants-Jcrew(similar here and here ), blazer-Zara(similar here ), shirt-Asos(sort of similar here ), shoes-DSW(really cool here ), gloves-Brian Atwood for Neiman Marcus/Target(more gloves here ), sunglasses-Banana Republic(similar here ) I'm feeling very Annie Lennox circa Eurythmics in this outfit, eh? Most times wearing a coat is a necessity, not necessarily an intricate part of the outfit, but here it really makes the look. And even though the blazer is covered up the hints of it, almost like a lining, work break up an all grey/white look.  And now for your viewing pleasure  Sweet Dreams:   Have a great weekend!
