Poetry Reading Outfit

Zippered pant cuffs allow for these to become capris! Double Collar!!!! Yep, these pants have an elastic waistband, ain't no shame. shirt- RalphLauren , sweater-MikkatMarket(similar here ), pants- H&M , collar-Asos(similar here ), booties-DSW(similar here ), cuff-Vintage This outfit was worn to the Hungry Sphnix Poetry Reading Series to hear the amazing writer's Celeste Gainey and Elise D'Haene.  There is a lot going on here: open back sweater, double collars, studded cuff, and tribal print harem pants!  Definitely an outfit to wear for an event, but the colors and general ease of the overall look keep it from being over the top.

Home for the Weekend

I'm headed to my hometown this weekend to visit family.  I'm thinking of keeping it casual but colorful.  I grew up in Williamsport, PA which is the home of little league baseball , so the ball cap and sneakers is a nod to that.   When I'm home I always visit with both of my grandmothers and I have to say (and I won't say which one) my Grammy makes delicious cookies. I'm not much of a sweets person but I find myself having like five when I'm at her house.   And of course no trip home would be complete without my dad hounding me about which mass I'm attending.  I think for church I may bust out my cat dress from Asos: Asos Of course the back of this dress may get some church ladies talking... But hey, what's the point of visiting your hometown if you can't cause a stir. Home for the Weekend by bernadetteulsamer featuring flat shoes

Chil in the Air, Pairing Black and Navy

This zipper is very important on giving this dress structure, while also creating the drape. dress/sweater-Gap(kind of similar here and here ), necklace-Gifted, boots-DSW(similar here ) Well Monday reminded me that it is NOT summer yet and it was a good thing I haven't packed up and put away my black tights.  I don't know if the pictures does it justice, but this dress had a beautiful drape to it and the sleeves are ribbed giving it a very cozy feel.  The silver thread in the sweater vest gives it a little sparkle which allows a comfy piece to have some chic-a-tude.  The colors also make this appear sophisticated while the fabric itself it quite comfortable and easy to wear.  Tomorrow looks to be on the chilly side again, one of the best tools for planning outfits--the 10 day forecast at www.weather.com .

Yellow Blazer, Printed Dress, and Sneakers

blazer-Zara(similar here ), dress/ belt-Target(similar here ), necklace-Forever21(similar here ), sneakers- Converse Weather last Friday was amazing, felt like summer and since these sneakers remind me so much of summers as a kid I figured why not pair them with a dress like I did as a kid.  I pushed the office appropriate here, but a blazer really can save anything.  I love the color of this belt, but it's way to big to be work right at my waist so I was able to tie it off sort of and still incorporate that great slice of red.

Jeans Outlaw

Yeah, I'm on the edge man, hanging outside the restricted area! jeans- H&M , tshirt- AmericanApparel , shirt-Jcrew(similar here ), boots-Forever21(similar here ) Some day it had to happen and that day is today.  I am just wearing clothes!!!!!  I know, I know, the whole premise of this blog is to showcase outfits, not just clothes, but sometimes/days I can't always meet that expectation.  Of course these are no ordinary jeans.  They are my adventure jeans.  I've worn them to climb a mountain in Ireland: I think, maybe this is the same white tee in the pictures above. And explore passage tombs: You may not be able to tell, but I had a lot more hair back then. We all have items of clothing that have been "somewhere" with us.  And for me these jeans definitely fall into that category.  These jeans have climbed through the heather, crawled on ancient stones and circumnavigated around several piles of sheep sh*t. I would go so far as so say t

An Obsession Is Beginning

Okay so you may recall my excitement over my new harness from this post .  Well I think I may have a problem.  I want more harnesses and Asos has them here !!!! I think this one is my favorite. I can see wearing it with a long flowing maxi dress to give it shape and add some edge to a hippy dippy look for summer. Um yeah, boobs in a cage may not be the best look for me. This is much more subtle then the two above and could be very elegant. This is so badass and I love how futuristic/robotic it looks.  I heart this so bad! The color is cool and sure the model is wearing a neutral/romantic dress I can see this with some of my plaid button shirts. For the most part all of these items are in the $30-$40 range, which is way cheaper then my Zana Bayne harness.  And I think $30ish dollars for a novelty accessory isn't bad.  However, at times like these I hear my mother's voice in my head... Mom: "Bernadette, honey girl, where would you ever wear something l

Wearing a Bridesmaid Dress Again

I love the contrast of the blouse's pattern, the pleated details in the dress and the tough hardware of the necklace and pins. This dress has some exquisite details in the tailoring with the pleats and tucks around the waits, subtle, but effective. This jacket has an inner cinching mechanism... tie it up, then button up... for a more defined waist line (hehe that rhymes) dress-Jcrew(similar here ), blouse-BananaRepublic(similar here and here ), jacket- MikkatMarket , belt-Asos(similar here ), necklace-Forever21(not at all similar, but I really love this one ), ring/bracelet- JewelMint , shoes-DSW(kind of similar here ) When I was in my brother-in-law's wedding two years ago I wore this dress.  I've been in several wedding parities over the years and this is the first bridesmaid dress I've been able to wear again.  But let's face it the Jcrew wedding shop  styles makes it much easier than most.  For work I wore this dress as a jumper and l
