So NY fashion week has kicked off and even after just one day of shows I'm already getting some great ideas on making outfits.
First up from TSE
These two looks feature long narrow skirts worn under fuller skirts. The idea of layering skirts intrigues me and has me thinking about wearing long slips under shorter sheer dresses this coming summer.
Here I like the idea of mixing a comfort item, like a nubby scarf, with a chic evening dress, which is a concept you can work in many ways, i.e. a plaid flannel with a party dress or a faded t-shirt with a suit.
Next Up Jenni Kayne
I love so many looks from this collection. There was a modern English countryside vibe all over the place. And who knows, maybe for Fall I'll try to find a big fur hat to rock.
Moving on to Cynthia Rowley
This show had a lot of turtle-neck action, which I always enjoy.
Moving on to Costello Tagliapietra and some ideas on prints.
Costello Tagliapietra showed some trippy prints that I also saw at Libertine
I'm going to out on a limb here (hehe) and predict that the new pattern for Fall will be trees. I've seen and worn a lot of animal (bird/cat/horse) patterns. But these coats with tree branches creeping up seems so fresh and perfect for the coming seaon. The Costello Tagliapietra dress also had a tree feeling about it for me. You may be hearing very soon: "Put A Tree On It!"
And now for something a bit rough from Kelly Wearstler
I'm loving this badgirl with her chain wallet and silver heels.
And Lastly Richard Chai Love
I think these are pants, but I'm reading it more like a maxi skirt with pockets and am liking the mix of a flowy feminine bottom paired with a boy-meets-girl prep school sweater.
Okay so the things I'll be trying out are:
- Layering skirts
- Pairing comfort items with dressier pieces
- Look around for tree patterns (but not foliage, God save me from foliage, branches only)
- Long hippie skirts with preppy sweaters
- Mixing in some badgirl accessories
Of course as more collections are shown this list will probably get pretty long, but that's the fun part right?!

Layering skirts has caught my eye. I have mid-calf skirt, ochre with a small brown flower print and a at the knee black knit aline skirt. They look good together on the hanger. Toned down from the photo considerably but for sure in the same spirit. I will wear with it a black long sleeve knit T-shirt and a wide triple buckle belt. I'm going to wear it Valentine's Day, we are going to Double Wide (they are doing a 1930's St. V. D.'s Massacre theme). Anything goes at the Double Wide.
