Outfits Not Just Clothes

 Technically, this is more of a smocked top, then a turtleneck, but a high-waisted neckline is good enough for me--Happy #TurtleneckTuesday! Usually I'm wearing sunglasses, but wanted to show off some eye shadow application. As in this post , I wanted to amp up the style factor from my regular Turtleneck Tuesday OOTDs here in the new year. I recently picked up this lovely smocked top from a local shop Pavement in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh that is bringing a bit of fresh air into winter outfitting.  This fleece coatigan is the perfect mid-layer for winter and gives any outfit another set of pockets! 

 These pants are a repeat from this post . I think they are just so perfect for winter! shirt /belt/scarf-Gap(more belts here  similar scarf here ), pants-Uniqlo(similar here ), necklace / ring -Mejuri, bag-J.Jill(similar here ), socks-Target(more options here ), boots- Columbia Sportswear I went with a rugged-chic style for this OOTD, pairing these high-waisted tweedy culottes with a bright red henley, plaid scarf, stripey wool socks, and hiking boots. I'm wearing this scarf almost like a shawl/poncho and using this crossbody bag to create alternative silhouettes. As stated above, these pants are quite versatile. From Tuesday's sporty  post  to a layered look from a dress-over-pants post  a few years back, these navy trousers suit a wide arrange of outfits and are quite warm to boot!

 I started highlighting turtleneck looks back in November with this post  with a burgundy turtleneck under a linen shift dress, topped with a blazer. I showcased a variety of outfits featuring a basic turtleneck-- here , here , and here . Well with a new year comes a new take on the turtleneck. I first featured this vintage-esque knit back on a chilly May day here . Since then it's not seen much action, but now that we are in the blossoming of a new year and colder season I think it'll start getting a more regular rotation.  One last party outfit that I would have worn this holiday season if times were not so socially distant.  dress-Saks off Fifth(more options here ), pin- Amazon , tights- Target , heels-DSW(similar here ) The details of this dress, with its texture and scalloped hem are just right for holiday season and perfect for a winter LBD. I love the idea of playing up the cutouts of the hem with a boldly hued tight and matching heel for a long and lean look. When you think of Christmas broaches or pins, the standard fare comes to mind of snowflakes, Santas, holly, etc. But the red trim of this ribbon makes it holiday appropriate, even though an insect is an unexpected adornment to say the least.   Continuing to post these mirror selfies, two things I've realized. 1. I need to clean my mirror, and second, I need to maybe not center-part my hair, or figure out some different lighting.  Going makeup free may not be the best idea... oh the vanity of it all.
