Primary Colors Pushing

shirt- Uniqlo , vest-Old Navy(similar here ), dress- Anne Klein via Macy's , sneakers-Zara(similar here ) I was heavily pregnant that last time I featured this frock, here . It was a real work horse for me during my last trimester.  Now 10 months since having my baby, spring has officially sprung and this pocketed midi is again doing the work for me. I wrote about spring florals in my last post , and that they can be a bit too expected this time of year. Well the dark background, graphic rendering, and primary colors of this flowery print help push against those expectations. Plus, the styling with a causal fleece vest and sporty statement kicks also pushes my mom style from frumpy to fun!  I just realized I have "pushing" in the title and copy of this post, while referencing birthing a baby. HA! Get it, "pushing" and "birthing"! 👶🚼😄😃

Florals, for Spring? Groundbreaking...

bomber-Piperlime(similar over at Poshmark here ), fleece- Old Navy , tee-ModCloth(similar here ), leggings- Zara , sneakers- QVC Last week I posted my "mom uniform" here , this week it's gotten a springtime refresh with this floral bomber. Statement outerwear is the name of the game when it comes to pulling clothes together in an outfit during the spring season. And while flowers for spring is not the most original style statement, having a dark background to the this floral print, with sporty features, like the stripes  on the collar, cuffs, and hem give it a bit more edge. The arrow screen print on the T-shirt keeps the edge going, while the tweedy sneakers bring a pop of color into this mostly black look. Oh, and yes, I actually have on two jackets, a fleece warm-up under the bomber for a extra warmth.  And, in homage to the post title a bit of Miranda Priestly shade for you!

Outerwear Not Just a Coat

coat/waistcoat-H&M(similar here and here ), shirt-Gap(similar here ), trousers- Banana Republic , loafers-Zara(similar here ) This androgynous OOTD is a great example of how outwear can make or break the overall look. On their on this shirt, trouser, and waistcoat are fine, but when you add the peacoat it becomes a more polished ensemble. Sure, the blacks of the jacket and pants don't necessarily match, but there's still a suiting vibe going on, as opposed to the topper being disconnected from the rest of the outfit. With the spring comes a chance to have way fun with outerwear and create a more cohesive look, instead of just wearing a coat. YAY!

Coatigan Season

coatigan- J.Jill , dress- Le Tote , flats- Dr. Scholl's , watch-Michael Kors(similar here ) Tomorrow is the official start of spring and one of the hardest outfitting season--SPRINTER! I've been posting sprinter looks for literally years, as seen here , here , here , and here . And the styles I keep coming back to are neutral in tone, with subtle patterns, featuring chic, yet functional outerwear. This OOTD is no exception, with it's black and grey palette, and amazing car coat aka "coatigan" from J.Jill .  Why is it so hard to dress for this season? Well, the layer game can get complicated, with chilly mornings and warmish afternoons, but beyond that, when the air starts to have those hints of spring it's hard not to bust out your best warm-weather wear. Restraint is key, like in this dress. The black and grey checks are straight-up winter, but the black floral-esque silhouettes on top are a subtle nod to
