Event Outfitting

Next month at the Carnegie Musuem of Art I'll be attending a screening of the film

The Seasons in Quincy: Four Portraits of John Berger

I hate to be a dilettante, but alas that is the nature of this modern age of pop culture over true art, blah blah blah... Anyway I don't know much about John Berger, but I DO know that my spirit animal, Tilda Swinton(!!!!) will be attending the screening to introduce the film as one of its producers and directors!!!!! Tilda in Pittsburgh, talking and walking in real life and I have officially lost my shit ready to burn down the house!!!!!!

So, yes I need a haircut ASAP, and I need to figure out what I'm wearing. Obvie I need to put together something avant garde, but this is still Pittsburgh, not Paris so some level of real world wearability is called for. Tickets and more info on this event here!

Initial outfitting thoughts,  maybe go with some recent purchases like this wrap dress.

Or, these culottes...

Or, go with graphic pieces like my all-time favorite of stripes like this look from last spring:

Or do a novetly-esque print like this "peacock" tunic I rocked this past summer in this post.

OR, do I bust out the big guns and Rent the Runway...

OR, maybe I the jumpsuit route from this post....

Granted this is a maternity jumpsuit, but it's not like there's a huge "baby bump" panel announcing that. We shall see, I'm just so super excited and can't wait to see my spirit animal live and in person!

40 Year Old Cottagecore

dress-Anthropologie(more options here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , necklace- Benevolence LA , bag-- Shiraleah , sandals- Born I first became aware of Cottagecore earlier this summer and found it to be an aesthetic I can appreciate and find aspirational , but was not necessarily a style that aligned with my wheelhouse. Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids.  I no longer feel like I have something to proof in my work, writing, sense of self. I'm just going to enjoy and be grateful for the many blessings of family, friends, health, a...

Rent the Runway to the Rescue

So after the semi-disastrous dress vote from last week I took the stiletto by the heel, aka reserved this Slate & Willow dress from Rent the Runway  for the wedding in July.  Slate & Willow I had my eye on this as a possible outfit for the Tilda Swinton event I attended last month (fancy I know!) But, ended up going pretty casual since it was just a film screening. An AMAZING screening, but not a dressy affair nonetheless.  Anyway, this striped sheath has so many good reviews from a variety of fellow renters in all shapes and sizes, I didn't see one unflattering user pic, so I'm fairly confident this frock will serve my needs come July. And here are some pics of former rentals over the last few years: Nanette Lapore Elie Tahari Elie Tahari Robert Rodriguez Halston Heritage Interesting in renting something for yourself here this summer, use this link , to get $20 off your first rental. You're welcome!

Annie Lennox Realness!

Love the tuxedo detail of these cropped pants. coat/pants-Jcrew(similar here and here ), blazer-Zara(similar here ), shirt-Asos(sort of similar here ), shoes-DSW(really cool here ), gloves-Brian Atwood for Neiman Marcus/Target(more gloves here ), sunglasses-Banana Republic(similar here ) I'm feeling very Annie Lennox circa Eurythmics in this outfit, eh? Most times wearing a coat is a necessity, not necessarily an intricate part of the outfit, but here it really makes the look. And even though the blazer is covered up the hints of it, almost like a lining, work break up an all grey/white look.  And now for your viewing pleasure  Sweet Dreams:   Have a great weekend!
