2014 Trends!

Happy New Year! It's January 1st and time to start gearing up for the 2014 trends! Here are some thoughts...

I think 2014 will the year of red! It was all over the runways and as winter lumbers on it's a good idea to have a vibrant hue to wear to cheer the spirits. And it doesn't have to be completely obnoxious.

Dorothy Perkins  The peplum isn't going anywhere this year so if you're a fan, great for you. If you're a thicker-waisted girl like myself, hang in there.

ModCloth Also I'm thinking plaid will stay strong this year, yay!

Amazon Winter winds are blowing towards skorts this spring. I'm a bit trepidatious...

Shoe-wise revamped(if not slightly impractical) boots may be in store this winter.

Fashion Union These are rough and tough (and red!) but the cutouts will not hold up in snowier climes. Oh well! Bust out this fierceness on more mild days. I'm loving the idea of an argyle knee-sock with these.

ModCloth This little kiltie toe detail will be seen, not just on boots, but pumps and flats in 2014, a little flair for you!

Another shoe trend I'm seeing for this coming year is two-toned neutrals:

Piperlime  This graphic pump can add a simple, but sophisticated touch to finish off an outfit.

I'm a big fan of vests and in this coming year the bigger the better!

A vest can add a layer of texture, color, and warmth, and help pull together a basic outfit of black trousers and a simple top. Wear it as a statement piece.

This year you'll also see midi skirts, crop tops, and branding logos. I'd provide you with images but I'm a big hungover this New Year's day so you'll just have to trust me.  Happy New Year and Happy Outfitting!

40 Year Old Cottagecore

dress-Anthropologie(more options here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , necklace- Benevolence LA , bag-- Shiraleah , sandals- Born I first became aware of Cottagecore earlier this summer and found it to be an aesthetic I can appreciate and find aspirational , but was not necessarily a style that aligned with my wheelhouse. Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids.  I no longer feel like I have something to proof in my work, writing, sense of self. I'm just going to enjoy and be grateful for the many blessings of family, friends, health, a...

Rent the Runway to the Rescue

So after the semi-disastrous dress vote from last week I took the stiletto by the heel, aka reserved this Slate & Willow dress from Rent the Runway  for the wedding in July.  Slate & Willow I had my eye on this as a possible outfit for the Tilda Swinton event I attended last month (fancy I know!) But, ended up going pretty casual since it was just a film screening. An AMAZING screening, but not a dressy affair nonetheless.  Anyway, this striped sheath has so many good reviews from a variety of fellow renters in all shapes and sizes, I didn't see one unflattering user pic, so I'm fairly confident this frock will serve my needs come July. And here are some pics of former rentals over the last few years: Nanette Lapore Elie Tahari Elie Tahari Robert Rodriguez Halston Heritage Interesting in renting something for yourself here this summer, use this link , to get $20 off your first rental. You're welcome!

Annie Lennox Realness!

Love the tuxedo detail of these cropped pants. coat/pants-Jcrew(similar here and here ), blazer-Zara(similar here ), shirt-Asos(sort of similar here ), shoes-DSW(really cool here ), gloves-Brian Atwood for Neiman Marcus/Target(more gloves here ), sunglasses-Banana Republic(similar here ) I'm feeling very Annie Lennox circa Eurythmics in this outfit, eh? Most times wearing a coat is a necessity, not necessarily an intricate part of the outfit, but here it really makes the look. And even though the blazer is covered up the hints of it, almost like a lining, work break up an all grey/white look.  And now for your viewing pleasure  Sweet Dreams:   Have a great weekend!
