A Judd Nelson Moment

A quick fist pump in homage to John Bender coat-borrowed, scarf-BCBG(sort of similar here ), skirt-Banana Republic(similar here ), top-Zara(sort of similar and completely badass here ), shirt- Ralph Lauren , collar- Asos So, I "accidentally" borrowed Mr. Keller's top coat yesterday... And I'm totally channeling Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club with a side of Alley Sheedy. As a child of the '80's I find myself sometimes drawn to the big shoulders-thrift store-badass style from those John Hughes movies.  Molly Ringwald's Andie from Pretty in Pink was my style inspiration throughout Middle School, which made me kind of lame since that was the early '90's and all the other kids had moved on...  Now here's a No Parking pic for fun! For more fun "Don't You Forget About Me"

Getting to Places

So, it's been crazy cold, duh! My outfitting has been less than stellar in this weather, but I am trying. I'm not wearing outfits to get to and from places. coat-Zara(similar here ), scarf- American Apparel , hat/gloves-Jcrew(similar here and here ), snowbibs- Dick's Sporting Goods Remember my snow pants post . Well here they are in action in my usual uniform whilst in transit these past few days.  Once I arrive the layers come off... boots-Target(sort of similar here ) And the outfit emerges when I'm AT places.  dress-ModCloth(somewhat similar here ), necklace-Urban Outfitters(similar here ), tights- Target, heels- DSW Again, more inside pics... Ugh, I much prefer outside. The lighting is totes better and the variety of locations make for way more dynamic shots. Regardless of locale, you can see that to brave the outdoors as an avid outfitter requires planning and strategy.  Like wearing a thermal underneath the dress!

Saturday Bowling Outfit

Saturday Bowling Outfit by bernadetteulsamer featuring animal shirts This weekend my best bestie is coming to town and we are kicking it old school and going bowling on Saturday at Arsenal Lanes in Lawrenceville. Forecast has the high at '42, which will be so awesome. Will definitely be rocking a jeans-and-tee look and hope to top that off with a jacket instead of a hefty-ass coat. I expect major melting icicles and snowbanks so rain-boots may be in order.  What weekend plans do you have for the break in the cold?

Super Heroes & Super Villians!!!

In this post , I highlighted the bodysuit I got from American Apparel for my super hero costume. Well this past Saturday Mr. Keller and I participated in a murder mystery dinner party as the Frozen Whip and Mr. Astounding! We were super heroes of course. My character was the "diva" of the group, so I tried to go a bit glam. Here's my costume in its full glory!!! Thank goodness I wasn't the only one that went all out.  This was the mystery's author, and fellow super hero The Scarlet Reaper. You may recall my friend Sam from this post .  Interested in hosting your own murder mystery and want an original script/concept? Check out Sam's Red Murder Mysteries here ! blazer-Zara(somewhat similar here ), bodysuit /l eggings -American Apparel, necklace-Ann Taylor(more necklaces here ), boots-DSW(sort of similar here ) This is pretty over the top, and bordering on busted-up drag queen, but we had a good time and at least I didn't opt

Layered Necklace & Mixed Plaids

blazer-Target(similar here ), shirt-Jcrew Factory(similar here ), necklaces-Banana Republic(similar here ) & Forever 21(similar here ), boots-Landsend(similar here ) Not only am I layering necklaces and mixing plaids, I'm also doing some mid-level and low-end mash-ups. Now what do I mean by that, you may ask? Well I'm wearing a semi-expensive Banana necklace right next to a very cheap Forever 21 necklace. Same goes for the Target blazer over the pricier Jcrew shirt. I've always mixed pieces from different retailers with various price points. The trick is not having it look obvious, i.e. don't let the more costly item look cheapened by the bargain piece and vice versa.
