Sometimes a Girl Needs to Carry Her Shoes

 I don't know if this is the most flattering silhouette for me, it seemed to work better without the blazer, but there was no way I was taking it off outside yesterday for these pics. I do love the color combinations here of bright blue with black and a pop of red. I wore the pumps during the day at work and sported boots for the commute home.  Which brings up the whole function vs. fashion debate.  I used to lean more towards the fashion end and suffer through being cold and sometimes in pain. But now I'm trying to find the "fun" in function, which is a different type of difficult when outfitting. This week I'm looking for warm/comfy pieces with polish for the office. Sweater dresses are great, but they can be tricky when styling a professional ensemble.

Rent the Runway to the Rescue

So after the semi-disastrous dress vote from last week I took the stiletto by the heel, aka reserved this Slate & Willow dress from Rent the Runway  for the wedding in July.  Slate & Willow I had my eye on this as a possible outfit for the Tilda Swinton event I attended last month (fancy I know!) But, ended up going pretty casual since it was just a film screening. An AMAZING screening, but not a dressy affair nonetheless.  Anyway, this striped sheath has so many good reviews from a variety of fellow renters in all shapes and sizes, I didn't see one unflattering user pic, so I'm fairly confident this frock will serve my needs come July. Love the tuxedo detail of these cropped pants. coat/pants-Jcrew(similar here and here ), blazer-Zara(similar here ), shirt-Asos(sort of similar here ), shoes-DSW(really cool here ), gloves-Brian Atwood for Neiman Marcus/Target(more gloves here ), sunglasses-Banana Republic(similar here ) I'm feeling very Annie Lennox circa Eurythmics in this outfit, eh? Most times wearing a coat is a necessity, not necessarily an intricate part of the outfit, but here it really makes the look.
