Wanted: Summer Dress for Work Under $100

I'm almost done with my spring closet cleaning and I've come to the conclusion that I only have two summer dresses that are work appropriate.  Not to say I have a bunch of hoochie dresses.  What I mean by summer work appropriate dress is one that is professional, with coverage (but not completely covered), and in a fabric that is too t-shirty. Also, it needs to be flattering and if at all possible interesting/fit into my style aesthetic.  Here are some options I'm thinking about.

Asos
This is definitely professional feeling and I'm digging the graphic color blocking. However, I think the drop-like waist will make me look way wide and the neckline needs to be more open to better suit my body type.

This might be the winner folks! I'll have to double check the fabric (keeping fingers crossed for cotton). The stripes are great, the cut good for my body type, and there's appropriate coverage for the office. Plus, I can see throwing on a blazer quick-like for meetings.

Piperlime
This is a great silhouette, but feels a bit dowdy in the sleeve-length.  Also, chambray is on the edge of denim and in my work environment denim is not appropriate.
Zara
Again, great graphic feel with the stripes, but the hem concerns me.  It might be a skosh too short for work.

Zara

This might work, but again, the neckline needs to be more open for some one with my body type.  Wait, what's that composition tab, 85% Polyester?  F that noise! Polyester in the summer is a big no-no! Nevermind...

There are so many pretty summer dresses out right now tempting me, but for office summer dresses I'm not seeing an abundance of options.  An ideal office summer dress needs:

1) Structure in the fabric AND a fabric that is breathable w/out being too close to denim.
2) Coverage, but not covered-up.
3) A higher-cut waist line(but not empire that'll be way to glowy-flowy) with an open neck line without revealing too much cleavage. This is for my body-type specifically
4) Hem that hits at the knee or right above.
5) Graphic, something cool, not too mature, not necessarily on-trend, but something with intention.

So any suggestions?

40 Year Old Cottagecore

dress-Anthropologie(more options here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , necklace- Benevolence LA , bag-- Shiraleah , sandals- Born I first became aware of Cottagecore earlier this summer and found it to be an aesthetic I can appreciate and find aspirational , but was not necessarily a style that aligned with my wheelhouse. Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids.  I no longer feel like I have something to proof in my work, writing, sense of self. I'm just going to enjoy and be grateful for the many blessings of family, friends, health, a...

Rent the Runway to the Rescue

So after the semi-disastrous dress vote from last week I took the stiletto by the heel, aka reserved this Slate & Willow dress from Rent the Runway  for the wedding in July.  Slate & Willow I had my eye on this as a possible outfit for the Tilda Swinton event I attended last month (fancy I know!) But, ended up going pretty casual since it was just a film screening. An AMAZING screening, but not a dressy affair nonetheless.  Anyway, this striped sheath has so many good reviews from a variety of fellow renters in all shapes and sizes, I didn't see one unflattering user pic, so I'm fairly confident this frock will serve my needs come July. And here are some pics of former rentals over the last few years: Nanette Lapore Elie Tahari Elie Tahari Robert Rodriguez Halston Heritage Interesting in renting something for yourself here this summer, use this link , to get $20 off your first rental. Annie Lennox Realness!

Love the tuxedo detail of these cropped pants. coat/pants-Jcrew(similar here and here ), blazer-Zara(similar here ), shirt-Asos(sort of similar here ), shoes-DSW(really cool here ), gloves-Brian Atwood for Neiman Marcus/Target(more gloves here ), sunglasses-Banana Republic(similar here ) I'm feeling very Annie Lennox circa Eurythmics in this outfit, eh? Most times wearing a coat is a necessity, not necessarily an intricate part of the outfit, but here it really makes the look. And even though the blazer is covered up the hints of it, almost like a lining, work break up an all grey/white look.  And now for your viewing pleasure  Sweet Dreams:   Have a great weekend!
