Sweater Coat and Cocktail Dress

While taking this picture my husband whispered, "Steeler Shoes!"

My nose is chilly.

I really enjoy this dress from BB Dakota I got at Jupe here in the South Side for several reasons, the least of which are the pockets! I love pockets, they are the best friend any outfit can have. I also enjoy the material and print in this dress. I really dig the "shards" of landscape that look as if they are ripping through the black. Poetic, eh?

Anyway, I wore this cocktail dress with a more casual/comfortable sweater coat, 1) because its practical and 2) because I enjoy putting casual and formal pieces together. The thing to be aware of is that having casual and dressier pieces can look a bit of a hot mess if you're not careful. I think the best way to pull it off is to keep the shoes chic. A great heel will never do you wrong.

Oh and I have to say how much I love this bag! Even though its from a fast-fashion store it looks totally vintage, which I tell people it is because I'm sneaky like that, but now you know the truth.

40 Year Old Cottagecore

Rent the Runway to the Rescue

So after the semi-disastrous dress vote from last week I took the stiletto by the heel, aka reserved this Slate & Willow dress from Rent the Runway for the wedding in July. Slate & Willow I had my eye on this as a possible outfit for the Tilda Swinton event I attended last month (fancy I know!) But, ended up going pretty casual since it was just a film screening. An AMAZING screening, but not a dressy affair nonetheless. Anyway, this striped sheath has so many good reviews from a variety of fellow renters in all shapes and sizes, I didn't see one unflattering user pic, so I'm fairly confident this frock will serve my needs come July. Most times wearing a coat is a necessity, not necessarily an intricate part of the outfit, but here it really makes the look.
