Recent Buys

With so many sales going on right now it's easy to get sucked down the online shopping rabbit hole, especially when one is bombarded with daily emails offering savory discount codes, it can be quite heady indeed.  I've taken a restrained approach to these post-Xmas/New Year's sales and have picked up some fun pieces this past week.

Cardigans are making a come back in 2015 and I am in desperate need of more substantial knits. I have the standard black and grey throw-on cardis, but they are kind of boring. My winter wardrobe is in desperate need of a statement cardigan, I think this will do the job.

These jogger pants aren't necessarily the most practical item for winter, HOWEVER, their loose feel and fun print will work for more casual outings when the temperatures start to peak above freezing. And I'm kind of loving the idea of pairing these pants with the above cardi... we'll have to see how the blues play out.

Okay these shorts were a bit of a wish-fulfillment purchase--dreaming about the sunny days to come here in 2015 and reminiscing as well about this past, awesome summer.  This was also a case of where the-discount-was-so-great-I-couldn't-resist type of buy. These shorts will be going into storage with my other warm weather clothes upon their arrival, so it'll be like a fun surprise in four months when I unpack my summer pieces!

I'm still in the market for a new day bag as I discussed in this post, but I think that'll be my big purchase next month. This month I had to buy a new phone after I dropped mine down a flight of stairs, yeah that was an unforeseen expense so unfortunately outfitting buys had to take a back seat.

I PROMISE next week I'll have outfit posts!

40 Year Old Cottagecore

dress-Anthropologie(more options here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , necklace- Benevolence LA , bag-- Shiraleah , sandals- Born I first became aware of Cottagecore earlier this summer and found it to be an aesthetic I can appreciate and find aspirational , but was not necessarily a style that aligned with my wheelhouse. Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids.  I no longer feel like I have something to proof in my work, writing, sense of self. I'm just going to enjoy and be grateful for the many blessings of family, friends, health, a...

Two Things

First: Isabel Marant's collocation for H&M debuts today in select stores AND online at noon, so you may want to get up on that.  Here are a few looks I'm lusting after. Hello mixed patterns!   Love the oversized coat and the detail on these jeans.   Patterned blazer, cropped colorful trousers, yes please!   Of course, I cannot partake in this collection with my Year Of No Shopping, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. So get ready to go by noon because I'm sure this noise will sell out fast.   Number Two: I'm thinking about a new haircut.  Something along the lines of Tilda Swinton .     What do we think? I'm not going to go blond, but I like the shorter/buzzed sides and back with length on the top. Mr. Keller is hesitant, he thinks it's too masculine, but I'm kind of in the mood to go a bit edgy and I've had the same cut now for two-ish years...  FYI: Tilda Swinton is my spirit animal!   ...

Gift Guide Part 3--Literature

So far I've covered beauty products and socks in this year's round of gift guides, which are prefect gift categories for the coming winter. To add to that list--reading! Here are a few books from my Books Worth Reading Pinterest board, first up--poetry! James Allen Hall's "I Liked You Better Before I Knew You So Well" from the CSU Poetry Center I LOVED Hall's 1st book   Now You're the Enemy , which won awards from the Texas Institute of Letters, the Lambda Literary Foundation, and the Fellowship of Southern Writers. So this is on my personal wish list to read here during the snowy days to come.  Anthology from Mason Jar Press "The Black Ladies Brunch Collective’s Poetry Anthology,  Not Without Our Laughter ,  is a collection of humorous and joyful poems, riffing on Langston Hughes’s novel  Not Without Laughter . It explores topics of family, work, love and sexuality. The women of BLBC believe, like Hughes, that even in these ...
