Gown and Necklace, Occasion Needed

There are times I buy clothes for an occasion or purpose, like parties, work, vacations.  But there are other times when the price is right and the item is just too awesome not to get.  The dress above is a prime example.  Jcrew Factory had 50% off and the gown, originally $78 was going for $38! The necklace is just too interesting to pass up and together I think they will create a stunning outfit.  But where to wear?  There are some outfits that call for an occasions and there are others that are an occasion within themselves.  For this potential outfit the latter might just be the case.  There's nothing wrong with looking fabulous on your back porch having a cocktail.

Speaking of occasions, I have signed up for a workshop on thrift shopping at the Green Tree Libary, Saturday April 28th, you can register here if you're interested.  Now it may come as a shock to some of you, but I'm actually not that great of a shopper...  It's true! Brick and mortar stores are not my forte, now give me an online retailer and I'm good to go.  So, in anticiapation of my NYC (made mention of here) I'm hoping to learn how best to approach an actual store as opposed to a website and hopefully learn a mantra or two for patience, because as a dye-in-the-wool Virgo I have very little of it.

40 Year Old Cottagecore

dress-Anthropologie(more options here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , necklace- Benevolence LA , bag-- Shiraleah , sandals- Born I first became aware of Cottagecore earlier this summer and found it to be an aesthetic I can appreciate and find aspirational , but was not necessarily a style that aligned with my wheelhouse. Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids.  I no longer feel like I have something to proof in my work, writing, sense of self. I'm just going to enjoy and be grateful for the many blessings of family, friends, health, a...

Rent the Runway to the Rescue

So after the semi-disastrous dress vote from last week I took the stiletto by the heel, aka reserved this Slate & Willow dress from Rent the Runway  for the wedding in July.  Slate & Willow I had my eye on this as a possible outfit for the Tilda Swinton event I attended last month (fancy I know!) But, ended up going pretty casual since it was just a film screening. An AMAZING screening, but not a dressy affair nonetheless.  Anyway, this striped sheath has so many good reviews from a variety of fellow renters in all shapes and sizes, I didn't see one unflattering user pic, so I'm fairly confident this frock will serve my needs come July. And here are some pics of former rentals over the last few years: Nanette Lapore Elie Tahari Elie Tahari Robert Rodriguez Halston Heritage Interesting in renting something for yourself here this summer, use this link , to get $20 off your first rental. You're welcome!

Annie Lennox Realness!

Love the tuxedo detail of these cropped pants. coat/pants-Jcrew(similar here and here ), blazer-Zara(similar here ), shirt-Asos(sort of similar here ), shoes-DSW(really cool here ), gloves-Brian Atwood for Neiman Marcus/Target(more gloves here ), sunglasses-Banana Republic(similar here ) I'm feeling very Annie Lennox circa Eurythmics in this outfit, eh? Most times wearing a coat is a necessity, not necessarily an intricate part of the outfit, but here it really makes the look. And even though the blazer is covered up the hints of it, almost like a lining, work break up an all grey/white look.  And now for your viewing pleasure  Sweet Dreams:   Have a great weekend!
