Easter Outfit

Okay, I'm still trying to figure out how best to style this new cut, announced here. It's a work in progress...

My toes have come out of hiberation with a pedi thanks to DeStefino Beauty Bar in South Side Works

As a little kids my mom would always have "new" Easter outfits for me and my brother. By "new" I mean often times they were hand-me-downs from older cousins, or found in thrift stores, which was really smart of her. Why spend a lot of money on matching sailor suits we'd only wear a few times, right?  Regardless of the provenance of our Easter clothes, the important point, is that it was a reason to dress up.

Not that I need a reason, now as an adult to dress up, it's still nice to have one! So, above is what I wore yesterday for Easter Mass. This dress was an epic deal. If you follow me on instagram you may have seen that I picked up this frock for a mere $8.97!!!! Yes, that is a FACT! Check it out here! I wasn't in the market for a new dress, but when the savings are that insane and the dress in question is super cute, flattering, and versatile then you have to go for it. I can see this number becoming a go-to piece this season, especially for the office. And I'm thinking slate blue, grey, white, and black may end up being my signature color palette for Spring 2015. It feels fresh, yet subtle, and I already have pieces in my wardrobe to make a go of it!

40 Year Old Cottagecore

dress-Anthropologie(more options here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , necklace- Benevolence LA , bag-- Shiraleah , sandals- Born I first became aware of Cottagecore earlier this summer and found it to be an aesthetic I can appreciate and find aspirational , but was not necessarily a style that aligned with my wheelhouse. Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids.  I no longer feel like I have something to proof in my work, writing, sense of self. I'm just going to enjoy and be grateful for the many blessings of family, friends, health, a...

Two Things

First: Isabel Marant's collocation for H&M debuts today in select stores AND online at noon, so you may want to get up on that.  Here are a few looks I'm lusting after. Hello mixed patterns!   Love the oversized coat and the detail on these jeans.   Patterned blazer, cropped colorful trousers, yes please!   Of course, I cannot partake in this collection with my Year Of No Shopping, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. So get ready to go by noon because I'm sure this noise will sell out fast.   Number Two: I'm thinking about a new haircut.  Something along the lines of Tilda Swinton .     What do we think? I'm not going to go blond, but I like the shorter/buzzed sides and back with length on the top. Mr. Keller is hesitant, he thinks it's too masculine, but I'm kind of in the mood to go a bit edgy and I've had the same cut now for two-ish years...  FYI: Tilda Swinton is my spirit animal!   ...

Gift Guide Part 3--Literature

So far I've covered beauty products and socks in this year's round of gift guides, which are prefect gift categories for the coming winter. To add to that list--reading! Here are a few books from my Books Worth Reading Pinterest board, first up--poetry! James Allen Hall's "I Liked You Better Before I Knew You So Well" from the CSU Poetry Center I LOVED Hall's 1st book   Now You're the Enemy , which won awards from the Texas Institute of Letters, the Lambda Literary Foundation, and the Fellowship of Southern Writers. So this is on my personal wish list to read here during the snowy days to come.  Anthology from Mason Jar Press "The Black Ladies Brunch Collective’s Poetry Anthology,  Not Without Our Laughter ,  is a collection of humorous and joyful poems, riffing on Langston Hughes’s novel  Not Without Laughter . It explores topics of family, work, love and sexuality. The women of BLBC believe, like Hughes, that even in these ...
