An Eye Towards Autumn

Around this time every August I find myself the deep throes of outfit fatigue, this summer more than ever.  These past two months have just been miserably hot and the only thing I can stand to wear day in and day out are my cutoffs and tank tops. Even if it weren't for the heat, since I'm working from home, I've not been outfitting in my daily life. But with my birthday and fall right around the corner I've been engaging in some retail therapy and dreaming of the chilly days and potential outfits ahead.

First up, some tough girl buys from Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale

How killer are these boots and this jacket. In a normal times I'd be planning not only how, but where I could style this badass combo. With jeans and flannel shirt for some outdoor day drinking at a local brewery. Or with v-neck sweater and plaid trousers for weekday lunch meetup, oh definitely pair them up with a girly flirty dress for date night! But alas this will probably only been seen with joggers and a t-shirt at the playground or maybe on a quick trip to the grocery store.  At least I get to be the "cool mom" at the park.

My self-care retail therapy continued over at Boden

Do I already own a pink pair of cropped pants? Yes, yes I do, but they are more lavender then pink to be honest, and they are baggy and I do prefer a slimmer fit when it come to colorful cropped pants. PLUS these were on HUGE sale and while pants have been somewhat optional in these past few months here's hoping come fall trousers will come back into rotation if only for my own self gratification/mental health.

Indulging in fantasies of sweater weather (and supporting local women-owned businesses) with this purchase from ruhling // woven

Who doesn't love a chunky knit in a bright color. Long time readers know how much I love wearing all of the colors seen here and here. So I'm thinking this textured knit will be the perfect topper to the slim pink pants above.  Normally, that outfit would be prime autumn work-wear, but my kitchen table doesn't really have the same dress code that my office did. So, instead this potential look may be worn for a very stylish stroll around the neighborhood on a crisp fall day.

Speaking of strolls, a practical buy from Ascics

You may recall this post showing how very much in need I was of a new walking sneaker. Well my first attempt at a replacement didn't have the instep support I needed so, I'm hoping this running shoe which boasts GEL technology and an EVA midsole will do the trick. And now that I see it, this shoe may actually work with the Boden pants and sweater above for that stylish stroll I'm planning... ?

As we roll into September the heat (at least here in Pittsburgh) doesn't appear to be going anywhere so it'll be a bit before you see these buys in outfits. In the meantime I'll be hiking around Frick Park in my bike shorts and my new trail sneakers!

Two Things

First: Isabel Marant's collocation for H&M debuts today in select stores AND online at noon, so you may want to get up on that.  Here are a few looks I'm lusting after. Hello mixed patterns!   Love the oversized coat and the detail on these jeans.   Patterned blazer, cropped colorful trousers, yes please!   Of course, I cannot partake in this collection with my Year Of No Shopping, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. So get ready to go by noon because I'm sure this noise will sell out fast.   Number Two: I'm thinking about a new haircut.  Something along the lines of Tilda Swinton .     What do we think? I'm not going to go blond, but I like the shorter/buzzed sides and back with length on the top. Mr. Keller is hesitant, he thinks it's too masculine, but I'm kind of in the mood to go a bit edgy and I've had the same cut now for two-ish years...  FYI: Tilda Swinton is my spirit animal!

Nasty Gal

Since the weather has been horrible I've been consoling myself with online shopping. And have made my first purchase with Nasty Gal : Lacy Chiffon Blouse Yuma Studded Blouse Alva Knit Dotted Stud Blouse Apparently I'm having a button-up shirt craving. I think all three of these shirts could work with the sweater, which is an alternative to your basic pull-over and may be a bit too edgy for work. But, I'm thinking a conservative wool trousers would nicely balance it out.  And in writing this I've come to the realization that my work "uniform" for the rest of the winter will focus on mixing edgy pieces, (or items with unexpected details) with conservative basics.  That might not always actually happen, but it's a good starting off point in planning a week's office wear.  Okay, enough of my pontificating, go check out the sale over at Nasty Gal there are some great deals to be had.

Mid-Summer Sales!!!!

It's time for one of my all time favorite summer activities! No, not bbq and fireworks, but the mid-summer/4th of July sales!!! There are bargains to be had everywhere you turn and I've already scored some deals here this past week!  From Zara 's Sale: Waistband Trousers Oversized Tee From J.Crew : Linen Shorts Side-Slit Tee And a few pieces I'm thinking of from ModCloth : ModCloth T-Shirt Dress Chambray Tunic True, these pieces are a bit "basic" but I'm thinking of the 80/20 Wardrobe Plan . 80% of your closet serves as foundation/workhorse pieces with 20% consisting of statement, more fanciful items. Like this "coatigan" from Nasty Gal Wool Coatigan Just think how this coat/cardi hybrid will pop against the t-shirt dress above, and/or the grey pants and either t-shirt, for a solid 80/20 outfit!  Regardless of how you approach your mid-season shopping the point is to get up on the
