Old Trends New Tricks

I've been seeing oversized blazers, wide-leg trousers, sneakers all over the place for a minute now. And when I say "all over" I mean online, obviously. And I find myself embracing these trends because I have so many pieces that fit with this mishmash of business formal, casual, and sporty style

blazer/trousers-J.Crew(more options here and here), tee-Cotton Factory(find something similar from Commonwealth Press), earrings-Jewel Mint(similar here via Poshmark), rings-Mejuri, sneakers-H&M(similar here)

The three main pieces of this OOTD are almost vintage, having been purchased over a decade ago in the aughts when I was first starting work in an office and decided I needed to dress formally in trousers and blazers everyday. The whole "dress for the job you want, not the job you have" idea being popular at the time.  Now, the job I have is working from home, so no on cares what you wear!

But, this outfit showcases how trends are cyclical. The wide-leg pants popular now were also on-trend 15 years ago, albeit with a lower-rise waist.  This structure jacket, (which I fucking love and never wear) was on MAJOR sale, even if it was 2-sizes too big, now it falls in with the oversized blazer trend. Mixing casual and activewear with more formal and business attire is the current take on  "high-low" dressing from 20 years ago. Again, these things circle back with just a new twist. I'm very glad I held onto that quality office wear from my late 20s/early 30s and happy to bring them back out, if only for some fun photos. Again, again, just wearing leggings and sleepshirts for work these days. 😉😜

As for the t-shirt, it's so old the company that made it, is now defunct! I wore this shirt on a trip to NYC back in the spring of 2010!!!!

Wow, right?!

40 Year Old Cottagecore

dress-Anthropologie(more options here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , necklace- Benevolence LA , bag-- Shiraleah , sandals- Born I first became aware of Cottagecore earlier this summer and found it to be an aesthetic I can appreciate and find aspirational , but was not necessarily a style that aligned with my wheelhouse. Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids.  I no longer feel like I have something to proof in my work, writing, sense of self. I'm just going to enjoy and be grateful for the many blessings of family, friends, health, a...

Two Things

First: Isabel Marant's collocation for H&M debuts today in select stores AND online at noon, so you may want to get up on that.  Here are a few looks I'm lusting after. Hello mixed patterns!   Love the oversized coat and the detail on these jeans.   Patterned blazer, cropped colorful trousers, yes please!   Of course, I cannot partake in this collection with my Year Of No Shopping, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. So get ready to go by noon because I'm sure this noise will sell out fast.   Number Two: I'm thinking about a new haircut.  Something along the lines of Tilda Swinton .     What do we think? I'm not going to go blond, but I like the shorter/buzzed sides and back with length on the top. Mr. Keller is hesitant, he thinks it's too masculine, but I'm kind of in the mood to go a bit edgy and I've had the same cut now for two-ish years...  FYI: Tilda Swinton is my spirit animal!   ...

Gift Guide Part 3--Literature

So far I've covered beauty products and socks in this year's round of gift guides, which are prefect gift categories for the coming winter. To add to that list--reading! Here are a few books from my Books Worth Reading Pinterest board, first up--poetry! James Allen Hall's "I Liked You Better Before I Knew You So Well" from the CSU Poetry Center I LOVED Hall's 1st book   Now You're the Enemy , which won awards from the Texas Institute of Letters, the Lambda Literary Foundation, and the Fellowship of Southern Writers. So this is on my personal wish list to read here during the snowy days to come.  Anthology from Mason Jar Press "The Black Ladies Brunch Collective’s Poetry Anthology,  Not Without Our Laughter ,  is a collection of humorous and joyful poems, riffing on Langston Hughes’s novel  Not Without Laughter . It explores topics of family, work, love and sexuality. The women of BLBC believe, like Hughes, that even in these ...
