Outfit Challenge! Go!

This past weekend I had quite an outfit challenge.  It seems that everyone decided that Saturday, February 23rd was THE day to schedule everything! Mr. Keller's brother and sister-in-law were in town so we all met up at their Grandparents' church for the annual ethnic food festival at 5.  Then my good friend's book party started at 6:30, another friend's birthday party started at 9 and we really wanted to check out the Speakeasy at the William Penn with said brother and sister-in-law.  All these events meant I had to put together one outfit that would be appropriate for each occasion, flattering, and in line with my general outfitting aesthetic.  Here were the top three options:

 Mixed Patterns Bow-tie Outfit
shirt/jacket-Gap, trousers/belt-Jcrew, bowtie-American Apparel, heels-Forver 21
Hello cropped trousers, you know I love 'em! Paired with a teacup pattern blouse and a bow-tie

Sparkle Stripes Outfit

top-Jcrew, cropped trousers-Gap, heels-DSW
From all patterns to simple stripes an ANOTHER cropped trouser.

Crochet Dress and Vest Outfit
dress-Free People(similar here), vest-Zara, boots-Old Navy(similar here)
A summery dress winterized with tights and boots.

And the winner is...
Option 3! Here we are near the church's parking lot and a blazer swapped out for the vest from above.

blazer-Forever 21 (similar here)

jewelry-Jewel Mint & Cookie Lee

Detail shot!

Taking a moment at the book party.  You can order the book "Mini Love Gun" here

Rocker boots.  This pic feels like it was shot in black and white, so artsy...

We didn't make it to the birthday party, and we didn't get any good pics at the speakeasy, but the outfit definitely rose to this challenge and worked for all events/venues. And that my friends is how you outfit!

40 Year Old Cottagecore

dress-Anthropologie(more options here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , necklace- Benevolence LA , bag-- Shiraleah , sandals- Born I first became aware of Cottagecore earlier this summer and found it to be an aesthetic I can appreciate and find aspirational , but was not necessarily a style that aligned with my wheelhouse. Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids.  I no longer feel like I have something to proof in my work, writing, sense of self. I'm just going to enjoy and be grateful for the many blessings of family, friends, health, a...

Two Things

First: Isabel Marant's collocation for H&M debuts today in select stores AND online at noon, so you may want to get up on that.  Here are a few looks I'm lusting after. Hello mixed patterns!   Love the oversized coat and the detail on these jeans.   Patterned blazer, cropped colorful trousers, yes please!   Of course, I cannot partake in this collection with my Year Of No Shopping, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. So get ready to go by noon because I'm sure this noise will sell out fast.   Number Two: I'm thinking about a new haircut.  Something along the lines of Tilda Swinton .     What do we think? I'm not going to go blond, but I like the shorter/buzzed sides and back with length on the top. Mr. Keller is hesitant, he thinks it's too masculine, but I'm kind of in the mood to go a bit edgy and I've had the same cut now for two-ish years...  FYI: Tilda Swinton is my spirit animal!   ...

Gift Guide Part 3--Literature

So far I've covered beauty products and socks in this year's round of gift guides, which are prefect gift categories for the coming winter. To add to that list--reading! Here are a few books from my Books Worth Reading Pinterest board, first up--poetry! James Allen Hall's "I Liked You Better Before I Knew You So Well" from the CSU Poetry Center I LOVED Hall's 1st book   Now You're the Enemy , which won awards from the Texas Institute of Letters, the Lambda Literary Foundation, and the Fellowship of Southern Writers. So this is on my personal wish list to read here during the snowy days to come.  Anthology from Mason Jar Press "The Black Ladies Brunch Collective’s Poetry Anthology,  Not Without Our Laughter ,  is a collection of humorous and joyful poems, riffing on Langston Hughes’s novel  Not Without Laughter . It explores topics of family, work, love and sexuality. The women of BLBC believe, like Hughes, that even in these ...
