Celebrtiy Hair Inspiration

For the majority of my 20's this was my hair--

This pic was back in 2008... maybe 2009, a cute "shag" of sorts that grazed by jawline. It wasn't anything revolutionary, but it served me. Then, after turning 30 I decided it was time to shake things up and go short, ala Stella Tennant

True, not an exact haircut copy, but the general idea was inspired by Stella.  I rocked this cut for several years. Then I saw Scarlet Johansson at the 2015 Ocscars:

And decided it was time to for an edgier do' but took a Tilda Swinton approach:

And like Tilda I then started lightening my hair and ended up with my current blond locks:

Fun right? But, I've started to notice that a lot of middle-school aged boys share this look, ala Justin Bieber:

As you can see, it's still a Tilda-strong style, but it's also getting kind of floppy for me:

So I've decided to play down my edgy look, and am once again seek direction from celebrity style.

Basically, I want to chop off the "swag" party of my current cut. Even though it is super cool, it's also a bit "muppet"-like, which of course my baby girl loves, but can come across as sloppy.  The pixie sported by Jean Seberg is a straight-forward and fresh approach.

Michelle Williams is a more current celeb that has been rocking a dynamic pixie cut for years. I'm going more for the left-hand style of this spread.

But, of course the ultimate pixie-style star is 1960's Mia Farrow! I really love this look, and it was what came to mind when I started contemplating a change.

My cut is scheduled for tomorrow morning, so check back later next week to see the results!

40 Year Old Cottagecore

dress-Anthropologie(more options here ), sunnies- DIFF Eyewear , necklace- Benevolence LA , bag-- Shiraleah , sandals- Born I first became aware of Cottagecore earlier this summer and found it to be an aesthetic I can appreciate and find aspirational , but was not necessarily a style that aligned with my wheelhouse. Well as I've been growing my hair during covid quarantine and having picked up this dress as seen here , I felt that I was ready to tackle #cottagecore here on my 40th birthday!!! Yep, that's right today I turn 40 (but I don't look it). And while it's been a year like no other, I feel excited for my next year, decade, chapter of my life. I think it's fair to say I'm done having babies and ready to move on from the chaos of very little children to the chaos of big kids.  I no longer feel like I have something to proof in my work, writing, sense of self. I'm just going to enjoy and be grateful for the many blessings of family, friends, health, a...

Two Things

First: Isabel Marant's collocation for H&M debuts today in select stores AND online at noon, so you may want to get up on that.  Here are a few looks I'm lusting after. Hello mixed patterns!   Love the oversized coat and the detail on these jeans.   Patterned blazer, cropped colorful trousers, yes please!   Of course, I cannot partake in this collection with my Year Of No Shopping, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. So get ready to go by noon because I'm sure this noise will sell out fast.   Number Two: I'm thinking about a new haircut.  Something along the lines of Tilda Swinton .     What do we think? I'm not going to go blond, but I like the shorter/buzzed sides and back with length on the top. Mr. Keller is hesitant, he thinks it's too masculine, but I'm kind of in the mood to go a bit edgy and I've had the same cut now for two-ish years...  FYI: Tilda Swinton is my spirit animal!   ...

Gift Guide Part 3--Literature

So far I've covered beauty products and socks in this year's round of gift guides, which are prefect gift categories for the coming winter. To add to that list--reading! Here are a few books from my Books Worth Reading Pinterest board, first up--poetry! James Allen Hall's "I Liked You Better Before I Knew You So Well" from the CSU Poetry Center I LOVED Hall's 1st book   Now You're the Enemy , which won awards from the Texas Institute of Letters, the Lambda Literary Foundation, and the Fellowship of Southern Writers. So this is on my personal wish list to read here during the snowy days to come.  Anthology from Mason Jar Press "The Black Ladies Brunch Collective’s Poetry Anthology,  Not Without Our Laughter ,  is a collection of humorous and joyful poems, riffing on Langston Hughes’s novel  Not Without Laughter . It explores topics of family, work, love and sexuality. The women of BLBC believe, like Hughes, that even in these ...
