Outfits Not Just Clothes

  The pattern of this skirt feels very 60's to me, or maybe I'm just on Mad Men overdrive. This may be a bit too gratuitous of a picture, but to properly show the necklace you can't help but get a view of some cleave, at least that is what Mr. Keller thinks.   blazer/skirt/belt-Jcrew Factory(similar here  and here  and here ), tshirt- Gap , necklace-ModCloth(more necklaces here ), heels- DSW , boots-Target(similar here )   It's been rough out there this past week, with rain, and traffic, and construction. Sometimes a lady has to strap on the boots and just keep trudging.  Of course, I bring heels for the final destination. I'm liking this unexpected mix of floral and polka dots, something to think about in future outfitting. 

Tomorrow I'm attending WYEP's 2013 Summer Music Festival and rain is in the forecast. It's time to bust out my Kate-Moss-at-Glastonbury drag.  It's all about the boots and not being afraid to show some leg.         Yep, those are lobster on my shorts.     top- Le Tote , shorts/ flip-flops -Old Navy(similar here ), bracelet- Jcrew Factory , bag- American Apparel , sunnies-Ralph Lauren(similar here ) Last night before the storm I wore this outfit for a potential dinner out. But once the downpour started we ended up with Chinese take-out and IFC's airing of The Shining.   But I feel this outfit deserves a proper night out, so I may either wear it for WYEP's Summer Music Fest on Friday or a friend's birthday party on Saturday.  We shall see...

  This is my superhero pose. The skirt blowing in the wind is kind of like a cape. But I don't think I'd go the cape route if I were a superhero, it would just get in the way when I'd be kicking a**.                   dress/necklace/ring- Le Tote , belt/ heels -Forever 21(similar belt  here )   This outfit is rocking all sorts of pieces from my recent shipment from Le Tote. I featured signing up for the service here .  I'm really feeling the graphic pattern of this dress, but not so much the silhouette. It has an elastic waist which I've hidden under the belt. A lot of dresses out there have these types of waistbands and an overall looser/flowy cut. I have to say I'm not a huge fan, these types of dresses usually don't suit me. The dress here is not as flattering as a more fitted/tailored dress would be on my frame.  But the belt helps as do the heels to lengthen and lean the silhouette. On another note...Sometimes the

Here are some pictures of boys' clothes:  Burberry Christopher Kane J. W. Anderson     Looks from the Men's Spring 2014 collections. I am in love with the Burberry looks. All that color and those layers on top,  while keeping things skinny and dark on the bottom. Something I may very well try in my own outfitting. Digging the patterns from Christopher Kane.  J.W. Anderson pushed the androgyny envelope and I think we'll see fuller trousers for both men and women next year.  All images via Style.com

2 Things: 1)Instead of tucking I front-tied my shirt for a more casual vibe that is still polished. 2)Yes that is a bit of twine I've wrapped into a makeshift bracelet. shirt/ vest -Gap(similar shirt here ), cropped pants- Jcrew , wedges-DSW(similar here ), ring- Jewel Mint A mid-week casual outfit for you here.  Wore this for a simple dinner with Mr. Keller. These cropped pants can skew a bit bland, but with a wedge heel and a printed shirt they act more as a solid base to the overall outfit.  It's no longer jacket weather here in Pittsburgh in June, but a denim vest acts as a seasonally appropriate topper for a laid back evening. Oh and I've discovered that front-tying a shirt a opposed to tucking it in keeps a look relaxed without being sloppy.  Just one more trick of the outfitting trade.  

                    blazer- Jcrew via Threadflip , trousers-vintage via Nifty Thrifty , blouse-Banana Republic, heels-DSW(similar here ), sunnies-Ralph Lauren(similar here ), bag-H&M(more bags here ), bracelet/rings- Jewel Mint   Two major pieces of this outfit, the blazer and trousers, were second-hand purchases, which amazes me looking at these pictures, because the outfit looks is very sophisticated and polished.  Two adjectives not usually associated with second hand/vintage buys.  Granted the blazer did still have the tags on it when I ordered from Threadflip , but these trousers are from the 70's and feel like new. And that's the key with thrifting/buying second-hand/vintage, be on the look out for little-to-no wear. AND keep in mind garment fatigue can be disguised with dry-cleaning, but eventually it'll show its seams, literally.
